Tim is an energetic and seasoned Intellectual Property Attorney with a rich history of over 20 years of experience in the field, dedicated to providing comprehensive legal services in the realm of intellectual property. Tim’s expertise spans patent portfolio management, IP due diligence, and litigation.

Tim has had the privilege of serving clients across diverse industries, including polymer chemistry and compounding, paper technology, biologics and pharmaceuticals, textile engineering, semiconductor wafer processing and chip manufacturing, and polymer catalyst chemistry. Tim’s business focused approach has led to the monetization of countless IP assets resulting in royalty payments, settlements, and other competitive advantages.

Tim excels in portfolio management, specializing in maximizing the value of intellectual property assets. His expertise includes crafting strategic plans aligned with business objectives, conducting patent validity analyses, providing clear non-infringement opinions, and offering strategic pre-litigation counsel. Tim’s proficiency in intellectual property due diligence has proven instrumental in corporate transactions, such as mergers and acquisitions. Notably, he played a key role in a client’s $11 billion acquisition of a multinational chemical company.

With a strong background in IP litigation, Tim has represented clients in various forums, including federal courts and administrative tribunals. Tim’s track record includes successful resolution of disputes related to patents and trademarks including the following:

• Schweitzer-Mauduit International Inc. v. Delfortgroup AG et al., D.SC and International Trade Commission, Section 337 Investigation (prosecuting attorney on the asserted patents and successfully defended 2 reexamination proceedings (inter partes and ex parte) directed to the patents in suit)

• Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc. v. First Quality Baby Prods., LLC, M.D. Pa. (prosecuting attorney on the asserted patents directed to adult incontinence products; successfully defended 8 reexamination proceedings (inter partes and ex parte))

• Southern Mills, Inc. v. International Textile Group, Inc., N.D. Ga. (represented patent owner in declaratory judgement action)

• Southern Mills, Inc. v. Safety Components International, Inc., N.D. Ga. (defended client; plaintiff voluntarily withdrew complaint)

• European (EP 2644759) and Chinese Oppositions, (working with EP and Chinese counsel, successfully defended oppositions and negotiated monetary settlement with one of the opposers)

• Cabot Corporation v. Solution Technology, Inc., W.D. NC (defended against patent relating to chemical mechanical polishing slurries for semiconductor wafers; client was exonerated after multi-week trial)
